01Workzoom Leadership

Workzoom founders. 52 years of payroll lineage.

The Workzoom founders are Linda Woolley (Founder, still actively engaged) and Andy Woolley (CEO and Co-Founder). Linda built her first payroll system in 1974, before the IBM PC existed. She co-founded Nortek Solutions Inc. with Andy in 2000. That legal entity still ships the platform today as Workzoom. National press has quoted Linda peer to ADP Canada's CIO on the move to multi-tenant cloud. Below: full founder bios, the full timeline, the press archive, and the implementation lead clients name by first name.

Founder

Linda Woolley

Linda Woolley studied at the University of Toronto and built her first payroll system in 1974, before the IBM PC existed. She founded High Line Data Systems Inc. the same year and ran it through the 1990s, building enterprise payroll systems for Canadian organizations. In 2000 she co-founded Nortek Solutions Inc. with Andy Woolley, the company that ships as Workzoom today. In November 2012 the Canadian Payroll Reporter quoted her as President of Nortek Solutions, peer to ADP Canada's CIO, on Nortek's 2009 decision to commit to a multi-tenant cloud architecture. Linda is still actively engaged in Workzoom today as Founder, 52 years after she shipped her first payroll system.

The company Linda founded in 1974, High Line Data Systems Inc., ran through the 1990s building enterprise payroll systems for Canadian organizations. That work is the foundation everything Workzoom does today rests on. The Canadian Payroll Reporter feature in November 2012 captured the moment Nortek committed to cloud: "In 2009, we said this is where we are going to head and it's going to be multi-tenanted. So no client would ever fear the risk of access by another client."

Chief Executive Officer, Co-Founder

Andy Woolley

Andy Woolley is the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Workzoom. He co-founded Nortek Solutions Inc. with Linda in 2000, and in 2010 he and Linda co-architected the Curos Technology Platform that became the cloud foundation Workzoom sits on today. Andy runs the company end to end, sets product direction, and has spent 25 years building the compliance depth, service model, and one-record architecture that define Workzoom.

Andy is the public voice of the platform. He runs product direction, sets the technical bar, and is the one on the call when an 850-employee Bahamian telecom or a 900+-employee Ontario county is choosing between Workzoom and the global incumbents. Cable Bahamas runs full payroll on the platform Andy and Linda built. So does the County of Renfrew. So does Island Luck across 60+ Bahamas locations.

  • Co-architect, Curos Technology Platform (2010)

HR Tech Vendor Selection and The Strategic Partner Test

By Steve Goldberg. Independent HCM analyst Steve Goldberg, ex-PeopleSoft / Bersin / Ventana Research, Top 100 HR Tech Influencer (HR Executive 2023, 2024), authors a vendor-selection essay naming Workzoom directly.

"One of the HR Tech solution providers I met with in recent weeks is called Workzoom, based in Ontario, Canada. I came away from my initial meeting with the very impressive Workzoom team thinking this emerging HCM solution vendor, apparently on a nice market trajectory, not only lives by the 'vendor as strategic partner' credo but seems to be extended it even further."

07Implementation lead

The person who actually onboards you, stays with you.

Implementation is included at every Workzoom price. The Workzoom person who onboards a client at month one is the same person they call at year three.

Manager, Client Onboarding

Tammy Osborne

Tammy Osborne is the Manager of Client Onboarding at Workzoom and the named person clients reference by first name in their case studies. She joined Nortek Solutions Inc. as a Senior Implementation Specialist and grew into the team lead role, and she stays with each client from kickoff through go-live and beyond. Her background before Workzoom includes Senior Manager, Human Resources at Safran Electronics and Defense Canada in the aerospace and defense sector, the kind of compliance-heavy environment that maps directly onto the mid-market HRIS implementations Workzoom runs today.

"Shout out to Tammy, she's been really really great."

Why 52 years matters. And what it doesn't.

Most HR-software companies courting your business were founded after 2015. Their architecture has not seen a recession, a tax-rule rewrite, or a multi-country payroll edge case. Workzoom's has. Linda has been running statutory payroll work since 1974. Andy has been running platform direction since 2000. The compliance depth shows up in things you only notice the first time payroll is wrong: retroactive rate changes, multi-jurisdiction tax updates, T4 + W-2 + NIB + NIS in the same run. It also shows up in the people. The implementation lead who onboards a Canadian county at month one is the same person on the call at year three. That is not a feature you can add. It comes from being founder-led, 100% Canadian-owned, with the same legal entity behind the brand since 2000. That is the Workzoom founders story buyers are really checking when they ask who is behind the platform.

08FAQ

Workzoom leadership: common questions.

Who founded Workzoom?

Workzoom was co-founded by Linda Woolley and Andy Woolley. They co-founded Nortek Solutions Inc., the Workzoom legal entity, in 2000. Linda had previously founded High Line Data Systems Inc. in 1974, building Canadian enterprise payroll systems before the IBM PC existed. Linda was quoted as President of Nortek Solutions in Canadian Payroll Reporter, November 2012, peer to ADP Canada's CIO. See the Workzoom about page

How long has Workzoom been in business?

Workzoom has been in production for 25+ years as Nortek Solutions Inc., incorporated in 2000. The lineage runs longer: Linda built her first payroll system in 1974, founded High Line Data Systems Inc. the same year, and co-founded Nortek with Andy in 2000. The brand became Workzoom on March 13, 2021; the legal entity has not changed. The platform serves clients including Cable Bahamas (850 employees), County of Renfrew (900+ employees), and Island Luck (850 employees). See Workzoom case studies

Who is the CEO of Workzoom?

Andy Woolley is the CEO and co-founder of Workzoom. He co-founded Nortek Solutions Inc. with Linda in 2000 and co-architected the Curos cloud payroll platform around 2010. Andy runs the company end to end, sets product direction, and is the public voice of the platform on industry stages including SHRM Bahamas. Founder-led for 25 years is a structural difference from the venture-backed HR-tech competitors most buyers compare Workzoom against. Linda Woolley remains actively engaged as Founder. See why Workzoom

Is Workzoom Canadian-owned?

Workzoom is 100% Canadian-owned and founder-led, with no venture capital. The legal entity is Nortek Solutions Inc., incorporated in 2000 and based in Ontario, Canada. Linda and Andy Woolley are the co-founders and continue to lead the company. Data residency is selectable between Canada and the United States; client data never leaves the chosen jurisdiction. See the about page

Has Workzoom been featured in the national press?

Yes. The Canadian Payroll Reporter (Thomson Reuters) featured Linda Woolley in its November 2012 issue. The piece, "Is the cloud the right choice for payroll?" by Zachary Pedersen, quoted Linda as President of Nortek Solutions alongside Chaayanath Mysore (VP and CIO, ADP Canada) and Timothy Banks (privacy lawyer, Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP) on Nortek's 2009 commitment to multi-tenant cloud payroll.
